History

Cardiome’s predecessor company, Rhythm Search Developments Ltd., was founded in 1992 by Dr. Michael Walker. Rhythm Search Developments was founded based on Dr. Walker’s research as a professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics at the University of British Columbia with the specific intent of developing a safe and effective anti-arrhythmic drug. With the founding of Nortran Pharmaceuticals, Rhythm Search Developments became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Nortran. In 2001, Nortran Pharmaceuticals announced a corporate name change to Cardiome Pharma Corp. The name change was undertaken to better reflect the Company's strategic focus in the cardiology area.
